Ahana Chowdhury has been deeply involved in the regeneration program of “Ahana Organic”, personally looking into the programs which have so far planted over 100,000 trees to restore the biodiversity pools in otherwise polluted landscapes. A leading contribution towards this direction for Ahana has been “Regenerate Earth”, a reforestation project that aims to work with permaculture, agroforestry, and regional farming methods to regenerate about 10-acres of ecosystem. As part of this initiative, she will be preparing a six-part manual focusing on organic farming, agroforestry, and methods of permaculture, to then train ‘tribal’ women in regenerative agriculture, nursery care, and soil revival techniques. She will also be preparing a certification framework to maintain the standard practices under the project over a long period of time. The initiative will culminate in a report that will incorporate data from the on-ground condition of the soil, and will also explain how such initiatives provide employment opportunities to marginalized women in a sustainable manner. The report will also outline recommendations for how such an initiative can be scaled up by collaborating with academics, government agencies, and NGOs.
